Bullying is aggressive behavior that is intentional and that involves an imbalance of power or strength. Typically, it is repeated over time. A child who is being bullied has a hard time defending him or herself. Bullying can take many forms, such as hitting orpunching (physical bullying); teasing or name calling (verbal bullying); intimidation using gestures or social exclusion (nonverbal bullying or emotional bullying); and sending insulting messages by e-mail (cyberbullying) .

Love this Picture. Fifty years later…Martin or Obama hmmmm?

As we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington, it is good and at the same time disheartening to know that in the wake of the Trayvon Martin verdict African-Americans are still marching for justice. This march is even displayed in film. For example, The Help and Lee Daniels’ the Butler. The films show us marching not so much in a literal sense but via media where African American directors and actors are fighting to maintain and broaden their space in Hollywood. Fifty years after the March on Washington African-Americans are still trying to deem themselves as worthy in the film industry as well as society, but hope prevails and justice simmers as we have our first African American President serving a second term. This allows all Americans to be proud when they yell Yes We Can! Yes We Did! in contrast to singing the popular civil rights anthem “We Shall Overcome“. Come celebrate with author Jeanine Jones at the Black Writer’s and Book Clubs (BWABC) Literacy Festival September 20-21st as we march via literacy and literature. Book Signings will occur through out both days of the festival. Jones will be signing her long awaited and overdue new book Yes We Can! Yes We Did!  The BWABC Festival will be held at the Hilton Hotel, 939 Ridge Lake Blvd. in the perfect location, Memphis TN. We will see you there.
